Two suspected thieves were stoned to death in a failed robbery on a shop in a village in Butere, Kakamega County.

Police said the incident happened in Eshikolome village on Sunday night as it rained.

An alarm was raised, alerting locals who responded and stoned the two suspects aged 45 and 40 respectively. They died on the spot, police said.

Police said assorted stolen goods and the tools the men were using in the mission were recovered at the scene.

The bodies were moved to the mortuary amid a probe into the incident and pending an autopsy. Police discourage mob lynching and want suspects to be surrendered to authorities for processing.

Cases of mob lynching have been on the rise amid efforts to contain the trend.

Elsewhere in Eldoret Town, a 32-year-old man succumbed to his injuries after he had been assaulted and admitted for a week. The man was assaulted in Kabarnet, Baringo County on October 30, 2025 by a known assailant after an altercation and rushed to hospital in Eldoret with serious head injuries.

Police said the victim Joash Masea succumbed to the injuries on November 6 at a private hospital and efforts to arrest the suspect for murder were ongoing on Monday.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Elsewhere in Faza, Lamu County, the body of one Michael Mwalimu who drowned in the Indian Ocean was retrieved from the waters.

The deceased drowned in the Kiangwe area, police said. The body was Sunday morning moved to the local mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

And police in Bondo, Siaya County are investigating an incident where six lorries were vandalized while parked at a petrol station.

The incident happened along Bondo-Kisumu Road and property valued at about Sh1 million was stolen.

The vandalism affected vehicles belonging to Bondo Heavy Commercial Group.

One lorry had its axles stolen while all others had their starters vandalized and stolen.

The police are investigating the incident.
