Two suspects shot dead in burglary incident in Narok County

Two suspected robbers were shot dead while another escaped with bullet wounds after a police operation targeting a gang linked to a string of robberies and burglaries in Narok County.

Police officers launched an undercover operation early Friday morning following intelligence reports about increased robbery incidents within Lolgorian township and neighbouring areas.

Police said the suspects had earlier raided Olakira Small Bar and stole assorted alcoholic drinks before officers began trailing them.

The three suspects, who were riding a red numberless Boxer motorcycle loaded with the stolen alcohol, were reportedly intercepted at Olkilorit area by another team of officers lying in ambush.

Investigators said the suspects ignored orders to stop and allegedly attempted to shoot at the officers, prompting a confrontation during which two of them were fatally wounded.

The deceased were identified at the scene while a third suspect, escaped with gunshot injuries and is being sought by police.

Authorities claim the gang has been linked to several robbery incidents in Lolgorian and surrounding areas, including a recent murder case reported at Oldonyorok in Angata area.

Police recovered several items from the scene, including an AK-47 rifle loaded with two rounds of ammunition, two Maasai swords, torches, a claw hammer, pliers, a Samsung mobile phone with an extra Safaricom line, the motorcycle used by the suspects and assorted alcoholic drinks believed to have been stolen.

During the operation, a police officer sustained injuries to his left foot and was initially treated at Lolgorian Sub-County Hospital before being referred to Longisa Referral Hospital for specialised treatment. Police said his condition was fair.

The bodies of the two deceased suspects were moved to the Transmara West Sub-County Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and collection by their families.

Police said efforts to trace and arrest the escaped suspect are ongoing.

And police n Kuria West, Migori County, are investigating the suspected murder of a 44-year-old woman whose body was found inside a house in Ngonchoni area, Isebania.

At the scene, investigators found the body of Franciscah Mwita lying on the floor with visible injuries to the head and left thigh. Blood was also seen oozing from her head.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been staying with her boyfriend for the past three weeks.

Police suspect he may have inflicted the fatal injuries before fleeing the scene for reasons that are yet to be established.

A wooden rod believed to have been used in the attack was recovered from the house and preserved as an exhibit.

The scene was processed and photographed before the body was moved to Akvide Hospital Mortuary pending postmortem examination.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
