The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) shall hold a Special National Governing Council (NGC) on Monday, January 26, to ratify the resolution to commence structured negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ahead of the 2027 polls.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan said the party’s NGC shall bring together all UDA elected leaders (Governors, Deputy Governors, Senators, Members of National Assembly, Women Representatives and nominated leaders) at State House, Nairobi.

This was ratified during a National Steering Committee (NSC) meeting on Wednesday, January 26, presided over by party chair, President William Ruto.

During the NGC meeting, Ruto will receive a scorecard on the progress of the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) derived from their manifesto during the 2022 electoral campaigns.

Further, he shall receive a report from the National Elections Board (NEB) on the party’s grassroots elections conducted across 42 counties.

As it stands, UDA shall conduct repeat elections in select Polling Centers on March 7, 2026, for Phase III elections and on March 28, 2026, for Phase II elections.

The party also resolved to establish a UDA Aspirants Forum to respond to the high demands of aspirants seeking to vie for various elective posts ahead of the 2027 General Election.

“Registration for aspirants seeking various positions for the Polling Center Congress commences today on the party website. All interested aspirants are encouraged to register.”

The inaugural aspirants’ Forum meeting will be held on February 4, 2026, at the State House, Nairobi.
“We invite all aspirants intending to vie for various elective positions in the 2027 General Election to register from today in the UDA portal.”

The remarks come amid recent political developments after UDA authorised President William Ruto to initiate formal talks with ODMon forming a coalition pact ahead of the 2027 polls.

However, the prospect of a coalition with UDA has divided ODM, with some members voicing support while others express frustration over the move.

In a bid to quell the dissent, Dr. Oburu Odinga reaffirmed that the party would proceed with its current relationship under the broad-based arrangement until 2027.

He said the party would thereafter decide whether to field its own presidential candidate or enter into a coalition. Should ODM opt to field a candidate, Oburu noted that he would be the party’s presidential flag bearer.

Meanwhile, Ruto said he is supporting the Committee on the Implementation of the Ten-Point Agenda and the National Dialogue Committee Report (COIN-10) to fully deliver on its mandate.

He said the process is designed to unite Kenyans through inclusive national dialogue and restore trust in public institutions by fostering transparency and accountability.

“It will translate consensus into practical reforms that strengthen democracy, improve daily life, and create opportunities for all,” he said.

He made the remarks when he received a briefing and progress update from the Committee on the Implementation of the Ten-Point Agenda and NADCO at State House, Nairobi.
