A Ugandan musician has been arrested alongside his producer for repeatedly composing, recording, producing and distributing songs through which ‘disturbed’ President Yoweri Museveni’s peace.
David Mugema and his producer Jonah Muwanguzi were on Tuesday held at Luzira Prison in Jinja after appearing before Magistrate Gladys Kamasanyu.
They are accused of uttering offensive communication against the head of state between 2015 and 2017 at Salama Road in Makindye, Kampala.

“It is very unfortunate that people were brought to court when it is not constituted but charges have to be read to them so that they know why they have been brought,” Magistrate Kamasanyu said.
They denied the charges but applied for bail through their lawyer, Abdullah Kiwanuka, an application that the magistrate said she would rule on, on Wednesday.
