Ugandan woman drowns in swimming pool at Diani cottage

A Ugandan woman drowned in a swimming pool at a cottage in Diani, Kwale County, on Monday evening under unclear circumstances.
The incident was reported by security personnel manning Diani Beach Park Cottages, who alerted the police. Police identified the deceased as Caroline Abbo, a Ugandan national.
Preliminary investigations established that Abbo had been staying at the cottage for the previous three days as a visitor.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the drowning remained unclear, as the woman was reportedly alone inside the cottage when the incident occurred.
CSI officers processed and documented the scene before the body was removed and taken to Msambweni Mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances leading to the woman’s death.
And a 43-year-old woman drowned in a water well along the Tyaa River in Mwingi Central, Kitui County, on Monday.
Police found the body of Rose Nzambi Mwinzi lying face down inside a water well along the riverbank.
According to her mother, Lenna Mwitu, the deceased, who was epileptic, had gone to the river alone earlier in the day.
The body was discovered at about 3pm by a neighbour, who was herding cattle near the river.
Police said the body had no visible physical injuries.
Officers processed the scene before the body was retrieved and moved to Mwingi Level IV Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances that led to the woman’s drowning.
Meanwhile, police in Nyamira have reclassified the death of a 35-year-old man from a sudden death case to murder following an autopsy that established he may have been strangled.
The deceased, identified as Stephen Munyasya, a 35-year-old adult, was found unresponsive inside his house in Ekerenyo Village, Boisanga 1 Sub-Location, Bokisaba Location, Nyamira North Sub-County.
The matter was initially reported at Ekerenyo Police Station on September 21, 2026, at about 5:58pm by his landlord.
The body was taken to Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
An autopsy conducted at the hospital on Monday established that Munyasya died from hypoxia, suspected to have resulted from manual strangulation, which led to cardio-pulmonary arrest.
Following the findings, police amended the initial sudden death report to a murder investigation.
Detectives are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding Munyasya’s death and establish the person or persons responsible.
