How President Uhuru Forced Former DPP Keriako Tobiko to Resign

President Uhuru Kenyatta has found a unique way of handling the senior government officials with constitutionally guaranteed security of tenure.

Recently, he forced DPP Keriako Tobiko and AG Githu Muigai to resign in unclear and shocking circumstances.

According to friends of the two, the President called them into State House with resignation statement already prepared and press briefing to announce the resignation arranged.

DPP Keriako Tobiko was summoned from his home village in Oloitoktok where he had gone for the weekend. When he received the call from the President to go to State House, he didn’t imagine that he would be forced to resign. He thought that maybe there was some special case which needed his personal attention.

On arriving at State House, Tobiko was directed to a room where the President arrived within 3 minutes of waiting. The President told him that he wanted to give the now former DPP another job as he had held the DPP’s post long enough.

The DPP agreed in principle but didn’t realise that a laptop computer nearby already had a prepared speech for resignation which just awaited his office’s letterhead and signature. The President asked him if he had the letterhead which he said no. President asked him to call his aide.

The letterhead was sent to the DPP on email which he opened in the already prepared laptop. The letter was printed, stamped RECEIVED personally by the President who thanked him and left to announce the resignation to the already waiting media.

Staffers at the State Law Office also narrated almost similar tales in regards to the AG’s “resignation”. It’s not clear if the President will give former AG Githu Muigai another appointment in a different office.
