The President, Uhuru Kenyatta will not attend the Presidential debate scheduled for 24th July, says his Senior Director of Communications, Dennis Itumbi.

The debate was pushed from 10 July because the president and his NASA counter-part, Raila Odinga threatened not to show up.

According to Jubilee Party’s Secretary General, Raphael Tuju, the organizers were hypocritical and arrogant. He said that they did not consult the President or the party about the planned debate.

Mr Itumbi says that the President will be on the 24th ‘be engaging the people of Kenya directly at their homes and markets.’

The Deputy President also opted out of the Running Mates debate that is taking place today from 7.30 pm at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

The DP was going to be represented by Kikuyu MP, Kimani Ichung’wa. Raphael Tuju however denied knowing about Ichung’wa’s representation of the ‘hustler.’

Four other running mates have also pulled out of the debate leaving it with only four participants.

NASA Co- Principal, Kalonzo Musyoka who is rumoured to be on his way to DR Congo has not confirmed his attendance.
