Ukay Mall is the latest building to be demolished by National environment management authority (NEMA). The president had ordered that all buildings that had been built on riparian lands to be demolished.

The demolitions took place even when the parliamentary committee was set to meet the owners of the building.

One of the owners of a business in the building had said that they were not given any notice. He said that there was no river under the building and that the nation had been cheated he insisted that there was only a stream.

The owners had sought an injunction against the demolition but the court had declined.

The owner stated that the building had been sanctioned by NEMA but no notice had been given.

“We only learnt that our building would be next through social media,” he stated.
