Vodacom Tanzania Launches Free Twitter and Facebook Browsing, Slashes Calling Rates

Rene Meza is the CEO of Vodacom Tanzania and he is not relenting in his quest to see Africans enjoy cheaper mobile phone charges. He fought a bitter price battle with Safaricom in Kenya while he was the CEO at the now Airtel Kenya. He then joined Vodaphone owned Vodacom Tanzania meaning that guys at Safaricom are now his colleagues.

So from today today Vodacom Tanzania has launched a new offer dubbed Wajanja which is specifically designed to meet the communication needs of the mass and youthful market.

Under the new campaign, Vodacom prepaid customers will enjoy all Vodacom to Vodacom calls at just ¼ shilling per second from 10pm to 7am every day. The new offer will also see Vodacom prepaid customers enjoying an SMS tariff of only Tshs. 25 for SMS sent to any network in Tanzania, as well as free browsing on Facebook and Twitter websites.

The new offer applies automatically to all Vodacom prepaid customers. “There is no need for customers to subscribe or register to the offer. All they need is to be on the Vodacom network”, Rene Meza said.

“Currently with about 20 million active customers, representing a mobile penetration of around 44%, the Tanzanian market represents a tremendous opportunity for growth going forward, and an opportunity Vodacom wants to be part of as we continue leading the mobile market by proving affordable mobile services”, Meza concluded
