The government is speeding up completion of projects across the country to ensure faster growth of the nation’s economy and better livelihoods.
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki said there is no room for delays in delivering the projects asking contractors to accelerate their completion for the people to benefit from them.
“We are working hard to deliver roads, water, electricity, better healthcare, modern markets and other projects. This is the development agenda we are fully focused on,” he noted.
The DP spoke on Monday during Kuresoi North Constituency Economic Empowerment Engagement at Kuresoi town, Nakuru County.
He said Nakuru County has benefitted from Sh80 billion worth of projects covering affordable houses, institutional hostels and modern markets urging for quicker delivery.
“Nakuru has received the highest allocation of money in the country for these projects,” DP said.
He challenged contractors to pull up their socks saying it is unacceptable to frustrate completion of key projects that are key to the realization of the administration’s development agenda.
“Contractors who are slowing down completion of projects have a case to answer. It is unacceptable to frustrate the government’s projects,” DP said.
He cited the delay in construction of Kiambiriria-Chepsir Road that connects Nakuru and Kericho Counties. Presently, only eight kilometres has been done out of the 40 kilometres.
“As the President’s assistant I will follow up with the contractor from today because we must get a solution to the delay. They must up their game,” he declared.
Other roads earmarked for tarmacking in the area Samburet-Kuresoi and Kuresoi-Chepseon.
Further, the Deputy President outlined many projects and programmes funded by the government in NakuruCounty promising their completion within the stipulated timelines.
They include expansion of electricity connection at Sh2.2 billion targeting additional 23, 000 new households at a cost of Sh4 billion. From it, KuresoiNorth has been allocated Sh362 million to connect 3, 700 new homesteads.
There are also 23 modern fresh produce markets underway in the County. They are coming up in Kinungi, Nakuru town, Gilgil, Bahati towns among others. In Kuresoi North two markets are nearing completion in Seguton and Kamara towns both being constructed at Sh55 million.
He also said the government is seized of the title deeds issue assuring the residents that it is being addressed to ensure they get access to the critical land ownership document.
At the same time, he challenged the opposition to desist from inciting Kenyans along tribal lines saying such politics has been overtaken by time.
“They should declare their agenda. Tribal politics is retrogressive and useless. You must convince Kenyans to support your policies, not useless things like tribal politics,” he said.
The DP was joined by Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot (Kericho), David Kones (Deputy Governor, Nakuru), MPs Liza Chelule (Women Rep, Nakuru), Alfred Mutai (Kuresoi North, host), Joseph Cherorot(Kipkelion East), Caroline Ngelechei (Women Rep, Elgeyo Marakwet), Linet Chepkorir (Women Rep,Bomet) and Principal Secretaries Festus Ngeno(Environment) and Dr Paul Rono (Agriculture).
