Whatsapp will stop working on phones running on Windows Operating System on December 31, 2019, the company has announced.
In a blog post last week, the Facebook-owned app said that the phones do not offer “the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.”
Following the development, Whatsapp says that the last update for the platform will be issued in June.
“Following Microsoft’s recent decision to end support for Windows Mobile devices in December, WhatsApp will release its final update for Windows phones in June. WhatsApp will continue working on Windows phones through the end of the year,” said a Whatsapp spokesperson.

The statement follows Microsoft’s decision to end support for the software from December the same year, advising people to buy iOS or Android devices.
WhatsApp also announced that by 2020, they will also withdraw support on Android versions 2.3.7 and older, or iOS 7 and older.
“Because we will no longer actively develop for these platforms, some features may stop functioning at any time,” added Whatsapp.
