Why all the us didn’t see that we needed an iPad

Ipad has just landed and the computing world has just again been wowed with an innovation from Apple. When will apple dissapoint? You know Google tried to wow the tech world with Nexus One. The problem is that it fell straight on their face and after the event one week later, google had sold only 20,000 devices. Google even had to suspend their China launch and we believe that its not because of their hack attack or spur with the communist government. Its more to do with forecast.

Then Apple with its bunch of news leaks, secret photos and confusing leaks which just worked up our psyche. And then THUD, lands the Apple Ipad. But you know the tech blogs like Mashable, Gizmodo and Engadget predicted 25th January as the launch date. New York times knew all along that it was going to be 27th January and went ahead and “predicted” the date correctly. What the tech world didnt know is the potential of the device. Now we know.

What I know is that apple just managed a scoop on this and just the way they managed the Iphone scoop with Nokia and Sony Ericcsson following immediately with the Express and Xperia editions respectively. I find it cool the way Steve was delivering the address unlike what I saw at Microsoft Windows 7 local launch where Louis Otieno, the CEO Microsoft East and Central Africa looked like a newbie in tech matters.

The Ipad has a few drawbacks which I don’t see as draw backs because if we had a camera on the Ipad and we also had a GPS, what would the cost have been? This is a very good entry level machine and miss of camera and GPS gives Apple the opportunity to wow us again with a 4G iPad which might just drive us mad. Also I dont think we need multitasking on such a device. Its really not for me when I want to travel from Mombassa to Kisumu by road and watch movie or browse along the way. One thing at a time please.

Engadget lists the following features

I like the machine and so I dont complain. I am just waiting for Rahim Kara of Nairobi Apple store to call me to pick up my machine.
