A 31-year-old woman died in a suspected drowning incident at a stream near her home in Lirhembe Village, Ikolomani, Kakamega County.

The deceased, identified as Hellen Mutirila Ilamu, was found dead on Saturday, October 10, 2026, after reportedly suffering a suspected epileptic seizure while at a stream near her homestead.

According to police, the woman was believed to have drowned at around 5:30 p.m.

Police officers rushed to the scene, where they established that the deceased, who had a history of epilepsy, was suspected to have suffered a seizure while at the stream.

The woman, who lived with her grandmother, is believed to have been alone at the time of the incident, leaving nobody nearby to assist her.

With the assistance of family members and other residents, the body was retrieved from the water. A preliminary examination found no visible physical injuries.

The scene was processed by investigators before the body was transferred to Mukumu Mission Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Police have documented the incident as a drowning case as investigations continue.

And a 23-year-old man was found dead near Barmish Village in Wajir West Sub-County, with police suspecting he may have been trampled by a camel while tending to livestock.

The deceased, identified as Muktar Daud, was herding camels in the Dadaa area when the incident is believed to have occurred on the night of October 10, 2026.

Muktar had reportedly driven a pregnant camel home at around 9 p.m. to allow it to give birth in a safer location, leaving his 18-year-old brother, to look after the remaining livestock.

However, Muktar failed to arrive home, prompting a search that began the following morning.

His lifeless body was discovered at around noon near Barmish Village, bearing bruises on the neck, face and back.

Police suspect the injuries may have been caused by the camel trampling on him during the birthing process, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain subject to confirmation.

Police visited the scene and undertook the necessary procedures before the body was transferred to Wajir County Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.

Investigations into the incident are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death.
