Police in Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County, launched investigations into the suspected murder of a young woman found dead in a guest house room in Kehancha Township.
The incident was reported on Thursday morning by the owner of Umoja Bar and Restaurant and its adjoining guest house after being alerted by the facility’s manager.
The manager had discovered the body of the woman, identified only as Monicah, lying on a bed in one of the rooms.
Police visited the scene and established that the deceased, believed to be about 20 years old, had foam coming out of her mouth.
Her hair also appeared disturbed, with signs that some of it had been plucked.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the woman had checked into the room on the evening of March 25, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m. in the company of a man identified only as Mwita.
The man is now the prime suspect in the incident and is believed to have fled the scene during the night.
The scene was processed by crime scene investigators, and the body was moved to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Ruai, Nairobi County, are investigating the sudden death of a 79-year-old man who was found unresponsive in his home on Thursday afternoon.
The incident was reported at around 4:11 p.m. by a resident in the area near Megalife Hospital, approximately one kilometre from the station.
Police visited the scene and found the lifeless body of Paul Mwehia seated on his bed inside his house.
There were no visible physical injuries on the body.
Family members indicated that the deceased had a history of high blood pressure, which is suspected to have contributed to his death.
Scenes of Crime personnel documented the scene before the body was moved to Uphome Funeral Home in Limuru, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted to establish the exact cause of death.
Police say investigations into the incident are ongoing.
