Police in Molo Sub-County, Nakuru County, launched investigations following the death of a 30-year-old woman whose body was discovered inside a rental house at Mucherwo Shopping Centre.

Police officers found the body of Salome Chelagat lying naked on a bed. Preliminary observations indicated that she may have died following a suspected unsafe abortion.

Investigators reported finding a dead foetus in a green plastic basin beneath the bed. Blood stains were also observed on the bed, apparently originating from the woman’s private parts.

The scene was documented and processed by investigators before the body of the deceased and the foetus were moved to Molo Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation.

Police said an autopsy will be conducted to establish the exact cause of death and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigations are ongoing.

This is the second such incident to be reported in a week. Last week, a similar incident happened in Kiambu where a woman was found dead and lying in a pool of blood. A foetus was also found next to the body amid speculation she had unsafe abortion that led to her death.

The case is still under probe. Such incidents have been on the rise amid calls for safe abortion in the society.

Meanwhile, police in Mathioya Sub-County, Murang’a County, launched investigations into the suspected murder of a 76-year-old man whose body was found in a farm near his home.

The body was discovered lying in a farm at Kangui village in Kambara Sub-location.

Police visited the scene and identified the deceased as Leonard Kimani Kamiri, who lived alone.

Police said the body was discovered a few metres from his house by his son, Julius Maina, who had visited his father’s homestead after attending a neighbour’s burial ceremony.

Investigators noted that the deceased had visible injuries on the back of the body, head and left leg, as well as a broken right hand near the shoulder, raising suspicion of a violent attack.

The scene was processed and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
