Woman found dead in Ruai house as suspect arrested after attempted suicide

A 33-year-old woman was found dead inside a house in Ruai, Nairobi, in a suspected murder incident in which a male suspect was arrested after allegedly attempting to take his own life.

Police officers from Ruai Police Station responded to a report of a suspected murder at a plot near a school on Wednesday evening.

Upon arrival, officers found the steel door to the house locked from inside, with suspected brain matter scattered outside the house.

A man was also seen lying on a mattress inside.

Police broke down the door to gain entry and found the body of Maureen Wanja Ngai, 33, lying dead at the doorstep.

Police said the deceased had a deep wound to the back of her head and bruises on her legs.

A 43-year-old man was arrested inside the house. He had sustained a self-inflicted stab wound to the stomach in what police said was an apparent attempt to commit suicide.

A 6kg gas cylinder, a kitchen knife and a bed stand were recovered from the scene as possible weapons used in the incident.

The woman’s body was moved to the City Mortuary pending autopsy, while the injured suspect was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death and the alleged attempted suicide.

And a man died at Kenyatta National Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries during an alleged assault at Kahuho Junction in Waithaka, Nairobi.

According to police, the incident occurred on July 29, 2026, at about 2am when a man allegedly struck Morvin Juma Omondi on the head with a rungu.

Omondi was rushed to Mutuini Hospital by good Samaritans before being referred to Kenyatta National Hospital for specialised treatment.

Police said relatives received information on Thursday morning that Omondi had succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Officers from Waithaka Police Station, together with detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Dagoretti, visited Kenyatta National Hospital and confirmed the death.

The body of the deceased was preserved at the hospital mortuary pending further investigations and other procedures.

Police are pursuing the circumstances surrounding the assault and the whereabouts of the alleged assailant.
