Woman killed by falling tree while riding motorcycle in Migori

A 35-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a falling tree while travelling on a motorcycle in Suna West, Migori County.
The deceased was identified as Elizabeth Andeyo Magaya, a resident of Marimba.
Police said the incident occurred at about 5:40 pm on September 30 in Magoto Village, Wasweta Sub-Location, Suna South Location.
Magaya was reportedly travelling as a passenger on a motorcycle ridden by her brother-in-law when they reached the scene where a known person was cutting down a tree along the road.
The tree fell and struck Magaya on the head, killing her on the spot. The motorcycle rider escaped unhurt.
Police officers who visited the scene found that both the rider and the person who had been cutting the tree had left the area.
The scene was processed and documented before the woman’s body was moved to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending an autopsy.
And a 64-year-old woman was killed in an alleged panga attack at her home in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Caren Atieno.
Police said the woman was at her home when the suspect, arrived while armed with a panga.
The two reportedly had a brief conversation before a confrontation broke out. Police said the assailant allegedly attacked Atieno with the panga, inflicting serious injuries before fleeing the scene.
Atieno was rushed to Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers and DCI detectives later visited the hospital mortuary and found the body with deep cut wounds on the head, face and right shoulder. Her left hand had reportedly been severed at the wrist, while another injury was noted around the left ankle.
The motive for the confrontation had not been established by the time of the report.
Police processed the scene and moved the body to the Ndhiwa Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
Investigations into the killing are ongoing.
