Tragedy as woman kills daughter in arson, dies by suicide in Machakos

A woman killed her seven-year-old daughter by setting her house on fire before she hanged herself on a tree in a suicide mission in Muthesya area, Masinga, Machakos County.
The body of Rose Nzomo was found in a tree in a bush by locals who rushed to the scene on September 3, 2025 morning to respond to the fire incident.
It was then they realized the woman’s daughter who was a grade two pupil at the Muambani Primary School had died in the fire incident.
Police determined the fire was an arson caused by the deceased woman.
After setting the house on fire, she hanged herself on a tree near the scene, police said.
The motive of the incident was not immediately established. The bodies were moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Elsewhere in Gachoge, Kirinyaga County, a 42-year-old woman died by suicide by hanging herself on a mango tree using a scurf that was found tied around her neck.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where six houses and 21 goats were burnt to death in Bondeni area, Nakuru County.

And police in Girimori, Kericho County are investigating incident where a man was lynched after he broke into a chemist and attacked an attendant therein. The man injured the woman who screamed for help before a mob responded lynching the suspect, police said.
The man trailed and stoned to death in the drama, police said as they moved the body to the mortuary pending an autopsy and further probe.
