Woman shot and wounded in confrontation between mob and police in Maua, Meru County

A woman was shot and injured in a confrontation between a mob and the police in Maua, Meru County.

One police officer lost two teeth in the drama after being hit by a stone in the February 6 incident, police said.

A team of police had gone to a village to arrest a suspect wanted for obtaining money with false pretence when he resisted and raised an alarm attracting a mob that turned rowdy and attacked the police.

It was then that the police shot to the air for their safety. However, a stray bullet hit and seriously wounded a 30-year-old woman in the drama. she was injured in the leg while in her place of work near the site and rushed to the hospital. Police said the suspect managed to escape in the drama while the injured officer was also taken to the hospital.

Police said on Sunday a hunt on the suspect was ongoing. The police were also pursuing the suspects behind the attack on the police officers on duty.

In Adungosi area, Teso, Busia County, a three-and-half-year-old baby boy drowned in a borehole at a home as he others played there. The boy and other children were playing outside a home in Okame village when the incident happened.

The body was later retrieved and moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy. Police said the borehole was uncovered exposing the child to the dangers.

And a man was shot and killed in a robbery incident in Enoosaen, Transmara, Narok County.

The police said they are yet to make an arrest over the February 5, 2026 incident.

A team visited the scene of the shooting and recovered a spent cartridge and recovered footage from a security camera that captured the dramatic attack. An autopsy on the body confirmed the man died of the bullet wound and that the bullet entered from the right side of the chest and exited at the back.
