Woman’s decomposed body found in thicket in Busia Hills
Police in Samia Sub-County, Busia County, have launched investigations after the decomposing body of an unidentified woman was found in a thicket at the top of Busia Hills.
The body was discovered on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
National Police Service officers visited the scene and confirmed the discovery.
According to the police report, the body was found lying on its back, partially clothed, and in an advanced state of decomposition. The deceased was described as an African woman aged approximately 35 to 40 years.
The body was emitting a foul smell, and no identification documents were recovered. Police said no visible physical injuries could be established due to the extent of decomposition.
The surrounding area was searched, but no valuable exhibits were recovered.
The scene was photographed and processed before the body was removed to Port Victoria Sub-County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination, identification and collection by relatives.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information about missing persons matching the description to report to the nearest police station.
Meanwhile, police in Galedyertu, Tana River County arrested a 45-year-old man accused of attempting to murder his wife by strangling her in a nearby forest.
The suspect, identified as Elema Maulid, an Orma man, allegedly attacked his wife, Saidho Gutu, 42, before dragging her into a forest in Waldena Sub-location, where he reportedly began strangling her.
The incident was reported to Waldena Police Station on Saturday, September 12, 2026, by Ahmed Kanjoro, the area assistant chief, after receiving information about the alleged attack.
According to the report, a woman who was fetching firewood in the area witnessed the incident, raised the alarm and alerted the assistant chief, who informed the police.
Police visited the scene and rescued the victim.
She was reportedly found unconscious and bleeding from the mouth. She was rushed to Waldena Health Centre in a standby ambulance and admitted in serious condition.
During the processing of the scene, police recovered one bow and five arrows, which were secured as exhibits.
The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody pending further investigations.
Police have not yet established the motive for the alleged attack.
