A routine repair job turned tragic after one man died and another was rescued alive following a drowning incident in Bungoma Central Sub-county.

According to the police, the incident occurred on April 22, 2026, at around 12:30 p.m. in Namawanga Village, Nangwe Location.

Police officers responded to the scene and found two adult men trapped inside a borehole at the homestead of a local resident who had reportedly hired them to carry out repairs.

One of the men, identified as Evans Wafula Simiyu, 35, was retrieved from the water unresponsive and later confirmed dead.

His colleague was rescued alive and rushed to Bungoma County Referral Hospital, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in fair condition.

Preliminary findings indicate the two had entered the borehole to undertake repair work but took unusually long to resurface, prompting the homeowner to check on them. It was then that she realized they were in distress.

The body of the deceased has been moved to Bungoma County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination, as investigations into the incident continue.
