Police are investigating an incident where two workers of an engineering company were robbed of Sh3.2 million moments after they had left a bank in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

The workers at Hatikvah Communication and General Engineering said they had visited the Equity Bank KU branch and withdrawn cash on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, for use elsewhere.

They were to use the money in clearing a cargo at the ICDC on Mombasa Road.

After the bank transactions, they drove to the company office in Karuguru in their Toyota Hilux double-cabin car to pick up their project manager so they could proceed to their intended destination.

The driver told police he parked the car outside the gate and closed the door but did not lock it while the cash was there wrapped in envelopes.

The workers said when they came back they found the money which was in a groove missing.

A review of security footage within the area established that a white car came and packed near the vehicles where one of its occupants rushed and opened the door and picked up the envelope with the money.

They then drove off. Police visited the scene and interrogated the two workers as part of the probe into the incident.

The team also visited the bank and talked to the staff present. It is suspected the thieves had prior information on the cash. Police suspect an inside job in the incident, which is the latest involving huge sums of money.

Police are investigating the incidents so far reported in the past months. Past investigations have linked such incidents to rogue bank staff who leak information to thugs about transactions of their clients.

Investigations have also been linked to prior information from the clients’ side to the attacks.

Other thugs stay in banks pretending to be customers with an aim of noticing those withdrawing money for attacks, police say.
