President Robert Mugabe on Monday reshuffled his cabinet and created a new ministry; Cyber Security, Threat Detection and Mitigation ministry.
The ministry is being headed by former Finance Minister, Patrick Chinamasa who on Tuesday made changes to WhatsApp Group Administration policies.
Effective November 1, 2017, WhatApp admins will be required a minimum of level 1 certification from the Border Gezi University of Cyber Security, Threat Detection and Mitigation.
The minister also pointed out that it will be a criminal offense for members to belong to groups whose admins are unqualified.
The members, Chinamasa said, will be ‘jointly and severally liable’ for belonging to a group not registered with the cyber security ministry.
According to the government spokesperson, George Charamba, the ministry will help protect the country from the threats posed by the abuse of social media, specially WhatsApp.
