It is believed the body of the boy was pulled from the scene by a crocodile which hampered efforts to retrieve it. Kenya Wildlife Service officials in the area were alerted and joined the search teams on the ground.

The body had not been retrieved by Tuesday amid search.

Meanwhile, a seven-year-old girl died after a branch of a tree that was being pruned fell on her in a village in Tinderet, Nandi County.

Police said the girl was standing next to where a man was pruning a tree when a branch fell off and trapped her fatally.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and probe.
