70-year-old man hacked to death during land clearing in Migori

A 70-year-old man was hacked to death by his nephew while clearing a piece of land for planting in Kuria East, Migori County.
Police identified the deceased as Peter Barante Mogesi, who was attacked at Kogori Village on Sunday, August 9, 2026.
According to police, Mogesi was clearing the land with his 13-year-old grandson, William Gitango, when his nephew, allegedly arrived armed with a panga and attacked him.
The victim sustained deep cuts to his right cheek, neck below the chin and chest. He died at the scene from the injuries.
Police officers visited the scene after the incident was reported by Nyansiri Jones, an assistant chief in the area.
The scene was photographed and documented before the body was moved to Wima Hospital mortuary for preservation pending a postmortem examination.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene after the attack, as police launched a manhunt for him.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing are ongoing.
And a 26-year-old man was found dead with multiple head injuries in Ang’ogo area, North East Sakwa Location, Awendo Sub-County, Migori County, early Monday morning.
The body of Hesborn Oketch Owuor was discovered at Kadera Lwala Sub-Location at about 4:40am, prompting police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to visit the scene.
Police said Owuor was found lying in a prone position with multiple injuries to his head, raising suspicions that he had been attacked and killed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had been travelling home from Rakwarо Trading Centre at about 2:30am when he was allegedly attacked by unknown assailants.
Detectives processed the scene for evidence before removing the body to Rosewood Hospital mortuary in Rongo, where it was awaiting a postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, an un unidentified man died after he was found lying unconscious across Kikuyu Road in Nairobi early Monday morning.
Police officers on mobile patrol discovered the man at about 1:32am on August 10, 2026. He had a broken left hand and was bleeding from the mouth and nose.
The officers moved him from the road and placed him in a recovery position as they sought an ambulance from the National Ambulance Services under the Social Health Authority (SHA).
However, police said no ambulance was available, prompting officers to rush the man to Mutuini Level 4 Hospital for treatment.
He died while receiving medical attention, according to the police report.
The body was later transferred to Nairobi Funeral Home, where it was admitted under number A1562 pending postmortem examination and identification.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s injuries and death.
