mutungaFormer Chief Justice, Dr Willy Mutunga has condemned the alleged killing of civilians by police officers in Kibera, Kisumu and Mathare.

Mutunga protested against acting CS Interior Security, Fred Matiang’i’s statement where he said that the demonstrations that were on going were not peaceful.

The CS said that officers would never use excessive force on peaceful demonstrators.

He said that the people on the streets were ‘criminal gangs and not demonstrators.’

Willy has however disagreed with the CS saying: ”Criminal gangs have rights. Arrest them, charge them in court. State protects the rights of all including the scum of the earth among us.”

Human rights groups and the clergy have asked the CS and the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet to ask their men to stand down.

The general public has also asked the security officers to arrest the demonstrators instead of killing them in cold blood.

An 8 year old girl, Stephan George was on Saturday shot dead by officers in Nairobi’s Mathare area.
