sossionKNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion and CS Education, Fred Matiang’i are in agreement that the examination timetable cannot be changed even with the elections fast approaching.

Matiang’i noted that should the elections date be changed, they will still be ready for the exams.

“We are proactive and always have to plan. I want to assure everyone that should the elections date change, we will [still] be ready to have exams. We are fine,” he said.

The CS said that the government would provide adequate security for the schools if the IEBC alters the date.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta instructed us to ensure exams are not affected in any way and provide enough security,” said the official who is also acting Interior Cabinet Secretary,

“We are putting enough security in the schools but we shall not change the time for doing exams.”

Sossion who is said to be a close ally to NASA’s Raila Odinga echoed Matiang’i saying the timetable should remain as is with or without changes.

“Children come first and exams should not be politicized. Whether there are changes or not, we will support the timetable as it is.

The election will not affect us…we will continue with the exams since the two events are independent. The electoral process is the business of voters and the exams are for children.”

Odinga had called for the Ministry of Education to push the National Examinations saying that ‘children will not die if the exams are pushed.’

He accused the Jubilee government of influencing the October 17 date set by the IEBC.
