The Central bank of Kenya (CBK) has been given a go ahead to open bids for the printing of the new design currency.

Judge Chacha Mwita had earlier struck out an application by De La Rue and another company who had applied to stop CBK from opening up the bidding process.

Judge Chacha Mwita placed the onus on the applicants to explain how they had obtained the tender documents before the issuance of any order. CBK alleged that De La Rue and the other firm had illegally obtained tender documents without participating in the procurement process.

The Applicants will therefore be expected in court on November 30 to give an explanation on how they obtained the said documents.

They faulted the CBK of failing to follow the constitution and the public procurement Act which requires then to put preference on local firms.

The CBK lawyer asked the court not to issue orders that would scuttle the tendering process that began in 2014 saying that the aggrieved party had not approached the court ‘with clean hands.’ The bank has been accused of limiting the the tendering process to foreign parties.

It is said that the foreign firms have been given a deadline of November 22 to present their bids by 10:30 am.
