Deputy President William Ruto has said senior government officials have developed an appetite for advisors with some having more than five at a go.

Ruto says that public servants who require advisors don’t know what they are doing and should go home.

The DP was speaking today as the Salaries and Remuneration Commission held a luncheon to mark the end of term after the completion of six years in office which is non-renewable.

Ruto said that the Country must take bold steps to ensure that the gains made in harmonizing and rationalizing salaries will not be eroded by the ballooning numbers that are going on in the National government or counties.

“Over the next 4 years we will be spending an additional Sh85b to make sure that the entire public service and remuneration is harmonize,” he said.

As the Commissioners’ 6-year term ends, Chairperson Sarah Serem cited wages harmonization, wage bill sustainability and remuneration policy as key achievements and unveiled a technical report detailing the achievements and challenges it has faced.

“The wage bill has increased from Sh465b in 2012-2013 to Sh627b in 2015-2016; it is expected to rise to Sh650b by end of 2017-2018 financial year,” Serem revealed.
