Garbage contractors in Nairobi County have complained over unpaid dues claiming Governor Mike Sonko has refused to pay them terming them as ‘fraudsters’.

The contractors claim that when Sonko held a meeting with them upon ascent to office, they raised the issue of payment and he promised to look into the matter and pay them as soon as possible.

He further allayed fears of job security for the contractors owing to his earlier sentiments that garbage collection would be given to youth.

“He promised to incorporate both youth and contractors so that none of the two lose out on their livelihood, that however has not been the case,” a contractor told Kahawa Tungu.

They claim the governor has become inaccessible and hardly in his office.

A source confided in Kahawa Tungu that the 60 garbage trucks unveiled at Uhuru park by Sonko and his team in a pompous ceremony belonged to a Somali am who owns Sifa and Kifaru companies and that Sonko’s administration ordered legit contractors who ad trucks at garbage sites to remove them without notice.

Garbage collectors are asking Sonko to pay their dues and as a leader soberly look into their issues.
