A Gilbert Ogango is suing Siaya Senator and Senor Counsel James Orengo for non-payment of salary accruing to Sh950,000.

In the suit, Ogango who claims he served at Orengo’s J A B law firm as a clerk said he was employed via verbal agreement for Sh20,000 but that the senator has refused to pay him despite having worked for 17 months without a salary owing to “hard economic” times as the lawyer allegedly claimed every end month.

The suit filed under certificate of urgency at the Employment and Labour Relation Court seeks to have Orengo pay his former clerk Sh340,000 as salary arrears for the period that he worked without pay.

He also wants one month’s salary in lieu of notice, house allowance being 15 per cent of basic pay amounting to Sh267,000.

The clerk also want to be compensated for the unfair loss of employment at Sh240,000, severance pay of 15 days each year completed for seven years he worked. This is coming to Sh80,500.

Ogango claims he believes Orengo and co have been misleading on the hard economic times narrative adding that ‘my hopes and patience have been dashed.’

He said he wrote a demand letter through his lawyers an was told that his salary was withheld not for lack of money but because he abandoned work without decency.
