Jubilee MPs In Court Challenging Party’s Position To Unfairly Remove Them From Committees

Four Jubilee MPs who in the past week were removed from House Committees have moved to court to challenge Chief Whip, Benjamin Washiali’s move.

Silas Kipkoech (Moiben), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills) and David Bowen (Marakwet East) were de-whipped on Wednesday for ‘not cooperating with the party position.’

Keter, Bowen and Silas did however get elected to Labour, Environment and Agriculture committees respectively, a move that defied orders given by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto during the Parliamentary Group meeting held at the state house.

Jubilee leaders are said to have objected to a domination of leaders from North Eastern, hence going against orders from above.

Keter and co. have termed Washiali’s move as ‘unreasonable and irrational’ and one that goes against the Constitution.

A section of leaders from the Rift Valley have threatened to draft an impeachment motion against leader of majority in the National Assembly, Aden Duale.

Led by Cherangany MP, Joshua Kuttuny the legislators expressed their dissatisfaction with the de-whipping of some of their own.

”We were trying to put things in order after our members were de-whipped from the committees. The act was unfortunate and MPs have resolved a number of issues, including an impeachment motion against Duale.”
