‘We Were Not In Our Right Minds’ Jubilee MPs Say After State House Meeting, Want Keter Out

Jubilee legislators now want a repeat election for the Labour and Social Welfare committee currently being chaired by Nandi Hills MP, Alfred Keter.

Keter was de-whipped alongside Marakwet MP David Bowen, Emgwen’s Alex Kosgey and Moiben’s Silas Tiren for not toeing the party’s line in December.

The legislators have written to Speaker Justin Muturi. Keter has dismissed their petition saying:

”They have written to the speaker in their individual capacities requesting that another election be held. But I also request that they be examined medically to determine their mental status.

It could also mean that they were not in their right senses when they contested in the August 8, 2017 elections, something that could put a lot of doubt in the eligibility as members of parliament,” he said.

But the MPs against all odds got elected to chair various committees.

Now, Keter’s committee members want a repeat election because they ‘were not in their right senses when the committee election was held.’

This comes after the legislators were summoned by the President to the State House on Thursday through Deputy President William Ruto, who’s directive they ignored.

Keter and co gave the meeting a wide berth. The Nandi Hills MP said that involving the President was ‘petty’ as he has more important issues to handle.

”This is such a petty issue. Why is he bringing the President in it? The President has a huge task of uniting the country and putting together his Cabinet and other important state matters,” Keter is quoted by the Star.

The Jubilee leadership, he says wants them out ‘because they do not want oversight.’

”They want puppets they can manipulate at will. We will not accept that. Let Parliament be allowed to perform its duties without undue influence,” he said.
