A wanted murder suspect died after he tragically jumped from the rooftop of a house in Nandi County.
Dennis Kipyego was pronounced dead at the Kapsabet County Referral Hospital following the jump that went bad, police said.
He had sustained deadly abdomen injuries.
Police had trailed Kipyego to his house Sang’alo village prompting a standoff.
In the drama, according to police and witnesses, a mob tried to block the agents from arresting the suspect.
This forced the police to shoot to the air to disperse the mob forcing Kipyego to jump from the rooftop of a house he was hiding.
Nandi North Police Commander Simon Muli said he fell on his stomach and on a sharp object and sustained serious injuries.
He said police officers drawn from Chemundu Police Station marooned the house where Kipyego was hiding prompting the standoff as he refused to walk out as ordered.
“He broke the rooftop and jumped out of the house and unfortunately fell on a sharp object that fatally injured his abdomen. The officers took the suspect to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning receiving treatment,” he said.
The suspect was a student at Kaiboi National Polytechnic and was the key suspect in a murder incident that occurred in December last year at Chemuswa, police said.
Police said he was involved in the killing of his step-brother over a chaotic family land succession dispute.
For the better part of Tuesday morning, residents of Sang’alo village protested over the police raid that turned tragic.
