Three suspects, including two police officers were arrested for their alleged involvement in an attempted robbery with violence along the Githurai-Soweto railway line, Nairobi.

The suspects were caught in the act on the night of February 17, 2025, police said.

The officers are attached to the General Service Unit headquarters. They denied the claims.

While on routine patrol, police officers stumbled upon the trio assaulting a man and attempting to rob him of his valuables.

Acting swiftly, the patrol team intervened, apprehending the suspects and escorting them to Githurai Police Post.

Police said they are investigating the incident with an aim of taking further action.

The police said the incident should not be used to judge the service.

Cases where police are involved in crime have been on the rise.

Elsewhere in Kaptembwo area, Nakuru County, a police officer was arrested after he lost his AK47 rifle in unclear circumstances.

This is after he failed to return his firearm to the armory on February 17 night.

He and his colleague had picked up the weapons for patrols and when time to return the same came he failed to do so.

During the patrols, he said, he had excused himself to visit his residence in the area. It was then he met to strangers in Mosaik area who also claimed to be police officers and accompanied him to a bar and later to his house.

He later blacked out and woke up in the morning he found the strangers missing.

His weapon with a magazine was also missing.

There are fears the weapon will be used in crime anywhere.
