A fresh wave of cattle rustling in Borabu Sub-County in Nyamira has sparked alarm .

Area Member of Parliament Patrick Osero has now called on security agencies to upscale surveillance to stem the spiralling vice.

He said there had been about three incidents in the last one month alone raising fears of a resurgence of the vice.

The legislation said he was shocked to hear that some suspects the villagers named during a baraza were actually his close friends.

“It shocked me that even some people i take as my friends are suspected as perpetrators,” Osero told mourners in Kahawa area in Borabu.

He asked security agencies to deal with the vice more ruthlessly and bring suspects to book.

Borabu Sub-County neighbors Bomet, Narok and Kisii Counties and has reported a fresh bout of cattle rustling incidents after a lull.

The vice is mainly propagated by an ambitious chase for economic gains, illiteracy, marginalization and poor governance tendencies.

It has already crippled various development as some residents are now abandoning rearing cattle altogether.

Villagers have reported several heads of cattle being traded at night across the communal borders with Kipsigis and Maasai communities over the last two decades.

Osero blamed poor parenting for the spiralling incidents.

“As parents let’s ensure our children are not embracing vices that are detrimental to their future and our future as a society. We have already suffered enough,” Osero stated

Other leaders present asked for unity among Kenyans in the face of growing political heat in the country.
