The body of an intern City Hall intern and a KCA University student who had been missing for days was found at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

The family and friends of Elvis Munene said his body was found after a long search of 23 days without a trace.

He went missing on January 29 as he walked home marking the beginning of his family’s agony of looking for their son.

Witnesses said Munene left home for the City Hall Annex, IT department, where he was an intern before he left for home that day.

His friends called him on the phone and they walked downtown searching for a new phone cover.

Police then stopped one of Munene’s friends and handcuffed accusing him of being idle and loitering.
Munene panicked and slipped off running towards Kirinyaga Road oblivious of the dangers ahead.

To the police, they wanted a bribe to release Munene’s friend but to the student, he did not want trouble and was sprinting away from them.

A mob mistook him for a thief with some tripping him before he was floored at the junction of Kirinyaga Road and Charles Rubia Road and attacked between 5pm and 7:30pm.

The mob mistook him for a thief.

Police followed him to the scene and rescued him. But it was too late. He had been injured badly that necessitated the summoning of an ambulance that took him to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

He was later admitted to the ICU, where he succumbed to his injuries two days later, police and the family says.

The body was moved to the mortuary even as the family and friends looked for him.

The family, unaware of Munene’s whereabouts continued their search until Thursday February 20 evening when they discovered his body in the mortuary.

They identified him by visible injuries to his head.

This has prompted an investigation into the attack on the student with an aim of ensuring justice.

His friends who were with him that day were Detectives are awaiting a formal medical report to determine the cause of Munene’s death through a postmortem examination to be carried out.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage obtained from various roads he used to establish his movements prior to departure.

Police discourage against mob lynching and want suspects be surrendered to authorities for prosecution.
