Two children aged three years and below have drowned in a shallow water pan in Furaha Village, Kwanza Sub-County, Trans Nzoia County.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, while the children were reportedly playing with other children on a farm in the area.

The children drowned in a man-made water pan on a farm. Police officers visited the scene after receiving a report from village elder Edward Wanyama.

The officers, assisted by members of the public, retrieved the children’s bodies from the water pan.

Crime Scene Investigation personnel from Kitale processed the scene before the bodies, which had no visible injuries, were moved to Kitale County Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examinations.

Police have commenced investigations into the incident.

Elsewhere, a four-year-old boy drowned in a pool of water in East Kanyarwanda Sub-location, Nyatike Sub-County, Migori County.

The incident was reported to police at around 4pm on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Police officers visited the scene and found the body of Chris Martin A Luo, a four-year-old juvenile, floating in the pool.

According to the boy’s parents, the deceased had been playing with other children near the pool before he disappeared.

Police suspect that the child may have accidentally slipped into the pool and drowned.

Officers processed the scene before the body was retrieved and transferred to the Migori County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the drowning are ongoing.

And police in Elgeyo-Marakwet County have launched investigations after a 22-year-old man died following an alleged mob assault in Kerio Valley Sub-County.

The incident occurred on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Kachemon Village, Muluber Sub-location, Chechan Location.

The deceased was identified as Felix Cheptoo.

Cheptoo had allegedly assaulted his wife three days earlier, prompting her to flee their home and seek refuge at her mother-in-law’s residence.

Police said Cheptoo later went to the residence at around 2pm on Thursday and allegedly chased his wife, apparently intending to assault her again.

Members of the public reportedly intervened, restrained him using a rope and subjected him to a beating.

Police who responded to the scene found Cheptoo lying in a toilet with multiple visible injuries on his back, shoulders and other parts of his body.

He had died from the injuries sustained during the alleged assault.

Police have commenced investigations to identify and apprehend those suspected of taking part in the assault and alleged torture of the deceased.

Cheptoo’s body was removed and taken to Tot Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
