A mini reshuffle in the Kenya Police on Thursday March 20 saw West Pokot County police commander Issa Mohamud promoted and named the Western Regional Police Commander.

He replaced Kiprono Langat in a move insiders said was aimed at enhancing operations in the area.

Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police Eliud Lagat recalled Langat to police headquarters pending redeployment.

Parts of western region including Kakamega and Bungoma have been experiencing cases of political violence that needed attention, officials said.

For instance, goons led by former Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, others by former senator Cleophas Malala and another group by Mumias Member of Parliament Peter Salasya have been causing havoc in the region.

There have also been instances of crimes in Matungu and Kakamega Town amid an outcry.

The new commander has been ordered to deal with the menace.

In the changes, deputy head of operations at police headquarters Geoffrey Maiyek was moved to Railways police as the commandant to replace Allan Sangoro.

Sangoro was recalled to police headquarters.

Nairobi’s Gigiri sub county commander Wilberforce Sicharani was promoted and moved to Nyanza as the deputy RPC.

Sicharani will deputise the new Nyanza RPC Gisiri Nyamohanga.

Immediate former Nyanza RPC Patrick Tito was moved to police headquarters and named as the Principal Assistant to Lagat.

More changes are expected in the service following the promotions, officials said

A number of recently prompted senior police officers will lie idle and without an office to hold.

The commission promoted more officers to the affected ranks than the available and vacant offices.

The commission promoted more than 135 Senior Superintendent Police officers to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

Other beneficiaries also included 277 officers of the rank of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) 261 Superintendents of Police (SP) and 50 civilian staff of National Police Service (NPS) in various cadres.

A total of 51 other officers of the rank of CP were promoted to the rank of AIG.

NPSC promoted 14 senior police officers to the rank of Senior Assistant Inspector General (SAIG).

The NPSC promoted a total of 724 senior officers of the ranks between Assistant Superintendent (ASP) and Commissioner of Police (CP).
