Senate Energy Committee Chairperson Senator William Kisang, Vice-Chairperson Senator Beatrice Ogolla, and Nicholas Gumbo visited ODM Party Leader Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi residence on Thursday morning.

The leaders visited Oburu to check on his well-being as he continues resting at home.

Oburu shared photos of the meeting on social media, saying the visit also provided an opportunity to discuss the work of the Senate Energy Committee.

“They paid a courtesy call to check on my wellbeing as I continue resting at home, leading to a productive update on the committee meetings, advancing our legislative agenda, and strengthening policy oversight in the energy sector. Collaborative leadership remains key to driving sustainable development and accountability across our nation,” Oburu said.

The visit comes days after Oburu dismissed reports that he was seriously ill, saying he was doing well and had returned home after a hospital visit.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Siaya Senator thanked Kenyans for expressing concern over his health and clarified that his hospital visit was for a general medical checkup.

“Thank you for your concerns. I have read the nation’s digital news and wish to state that I am very well. I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general checkup with my doctors and have since returned home,” he said.

Oburu said there was no reason for alarm over the hospital visit, noting that illness was a normal part of human life.

He also assured Kenyans that he would communicate publicly if he developed a serious health condition.

“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person. Thanks for your concerns,” Oburu added.

Oburu’s clarification followed reports that the 82-year-old politician had been admitted to a Nairobi hospital.

The reports claimed that he had been receiving medical attention for several days after experiencing severe fatigue.

There were also reports that his family was considering taking him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical treatment.

Oburu, however, dismissed the reports and said his hospital visit was only for a general checkup with his doctors.
