Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Odinga has broken his silence over reports concerning his health, saying he is doing well and has returned home.

The Siaya Senator dismissed reports suggesting that he was seriously ill and said his visit to hospital was only for a routine medical checkup.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, Oburu thanked Kenyans for their concern and clarified that he had briefly visited hospital to consult his doctors.

“Thank you for your concerns. I have read the nation’s digital news and wish to state that I am very well. I had only briefly visited the hospital for a general checkup with my doctors and have since returned home,” he said.

The ODM leader said there was no need for alarm over his hospital visit, noting that illness is part of normal human life.

He further assured Kenyans that he would publicly communicate should he develop any serious health condition.

“Being sick is a normal human experience and should not alarm anyone. The day I am truly sick, I will inform you all, for I am a very transparent person. Thanks for your concerns,” Oburu added.

Oburu’s statement comes after reports emerged that the 82-year-old politician had been hospitalised in Nairobi.

The reports claimed that he had been receiving medical attention for several days after experiencing severe fatigue.

There were also reports that his family was considering taking him to the United Kingdom for specialised treatment.
