At least six AK47 rifles cannot be accounted for after al Shabaab terrorists overran a camp in Fafi, Garissa County.

The gang also escaped with three AK47 magazines and a Rocket Propelled Grenade in the Sunday March 23 morning raid on a National Police Reserve camp.

Officials said there were 16 NPR officers at the camp at the time of the attack. Six are unaccounted for so far amid fears they were abducted by the attackers.

The attackers killed six NPR and injured four others in the raid in Biyamadhow area, police said.

During the attack, two al Shabaab militants were killed. One was injured in the attack, police said.

The gang stopped a salon car that was carrying mourners in the area and ordered the occupants out.

They loaded the bodies onto the car and drove towards Somalia direction.

There are fears of more similar attacks in the area after the militants were spotted mobilizing and moving towards Kenya.

The area is near the porous Kenya-Somalia border, which is usually breached by the militants.

Locals have been complaining and reporting seeing the militants roaming, probing and spying on security camps in the area.

Police said multi-agency teams had been dispatched to the region to pursue the gangs planning more attacks.

National police service spokesman Michael Muchiri said they are making more efforts to address the menace that has been persistent despite operations to tame the same.

The bodies of the deceased were moved to a local mortuary while the injured were taken to hospital.

More personnel have been sent to parts of Mandera where intelligence shows militants plan an attack on security personnel.

The motive of the militia is revenge for their kinsman who was arrested by Kenya security for terrorism offense, officials said.

The officials said the militia also plans more incidents of kidnap on Kenyans.

This has prompted security officials to enhance security at the border to tame any such plans.

Mandera has been a centre of interest in the past weeks after a group of rogue security officials from Somalia shot and killed a police officer over the same issue.

The terrorists have been attacking the area, affecting development at large. Somalia has not had a stable government for decades.

Security agents have mounted operations in the area in an effort to contain the terror-related attacks.

Officials say this has led to the reduction of such incidents in general.

The incidents happened even as the US embassy  in Nairobi issued a new travel advisory warning to its citizens residing in Kenya.

Americans have also been warned against traveling at the Kenya-Somalia border counties, which include Garissa, Wajir, Mandera, Tana River and coastal areas north of Malindi.

The embassy cautioned Americans from traveling to several areas citing security risks such as crime, civil unrest, terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.

Officials said more patrols have been enhanced in the area.
