A football fan’s vehicle was stolen on Thursday evening during the Harambee Stars vs Gabon match at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday, March 23, 2024.

Police said the car, a silver Toyota IST with registration number KBN 093B, was taken while parked by the roadside along Kisauni Road, behind Nairobi West Hospital.

The owner reported the theft at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata, stating that he had parked the car at 3:40 pm before heading to the stadium to watch the World Cup Qualifiers match.

After Kenya’s 2-1 loss to Gabon, the fan returned at around 7:00 pm, only to find his vehicle missing.

“Having provided sufficient proof of ownership of the vehicle to the police, the car has been circulated as stolen, with DCI Langata leading the investigation,” police said.

During the same match, Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was assaulted and forceful ejection from Nyayo Stadium.

Salasya, who was among thousands of football fans attending the crucial match, was chased out of the stadium in chaotic scenes that were captured in viral videos.

Footage shows the MP being roughed up by a section of the crowd before being forcibly directed towards the stadium’s exit.

Some individuals attempted to grab and attack him, while others threw what appeared to be a plastic container at him. The altercation spilled into the stadium parking area, where supporters surrounded him, urging him to leave.

While the exact cause of the incident remains unclear, some fans were heard chanting “Respect the President,” suggesting the clash may have been triggered by remarks or actions by the MP regarding President William Ruto, who was also in attendance at the match after earlier appearing at the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Naivasha.

Meanwhile, police in Juja are investigating another car theft involving a white Toyota Axio, registration number KCR 628U.

The vehicle was stolen from a residential compound in the Matangi area, near Rurii Primary School in Kimbo. The owner had parked it outside on Saturday night but found it missing the next morning.

The public is urged to report any information about the stolen cars to the police through emergency numbers 999, 911, 112, or the toll-free line 0800722203.
