Two men were arrested on Sunday evening after attempting to steal over Sh1.2 million worth of diesel from a petrol station in Kajiado County.

According to police, the suspects’ scheme was thwarted by a vigilant pump attendant at Sajjy Petrol Station in Bisil township, Oloililai Sub-County.

The incident occurred around 4 pm when an Isuzu NPR tanker pulled up at the station.

The two men, posing as wealthy customers, requested to purchase 6,000 litres of diesel.

Claiming to have already made a direct bank payment to the station’s owner, they presented what appeared to be proof of the transaction.

Without questioning the document, the attendant began refueling the tanker but excused himself after pumping about 100 litres to confirm the payment.

Upon calling his employer, his suspicions were confirmed—the payment had not been made, and no such transaction had been authorized.

Keeping his composure, the attendant discreetly signaled his colleagues, who swiftly restrained the suspects and alerted the police.

“A petrified Boniface Karanja, 32 and his 54-year-old accomplice, Daniel Kimani, were re-arested, and their vehicle detained,” police said.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had traveled from Nairobi and were part of a larger syndicate targeting petrol stations in smaller towns.

Police have launched further investigations to track down other members of the gang.
