Kenyan women leaders have called for patience and understanding following public concerns over the prolonged absence of Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.

In a joint statement, they revealed that the governor recently gave birth to twins and has been recovering from complications that have delayed her return to office.

Led by former nominated senator Millicent Omanga, the leaders expressed their unwavering support for Kihika, emphasizing that childbirth is a natural and deeply personal process.

They congratulated her on the birth of her children, terming them a blessing.

“As women leaders of Kenya, we stand here today in solidarity with Governor Susan Kihika, a dedicated public servant and a mother who has recently welcomed twins into the world. We congratulate her on the birth of her children. They are a blessing from God, and we give thanks,” the statement read.

They noted that the journey to motherhood comes with both joy and unforeseen medical complications, which may require time for recovery and healing.

They urged the public to exercise patience, empathy, and understanding, reminding Kenyans that women in leadership are not exempt from the realities of motherhood.

“We are not only governors, senators, and public officials; we are also mothers, daughters, sisters, and aunties. The expectation that women leaders should sacrifice their well-being and that of their children to meet unrealistic demands is unfair and unjust,” they stated.

The leaders further called for a more inclusive approach to leadership that accommodates the biological and social realities of women.

They urged institutions to create supportive environments that allow women in leadership to balance their professional and family responsibilities.

“To our dear sister, Governor Susan Kihika, we stand with you. We celebrate your resilience and assure you that your health and well-being matter. We look forward to your full recovery and eventual return to serve the great people of Nakuru.”

Kihika has been absent in public for months now.
