A 39-year-old man died after a snake bite on his farm in Kapsang area, Keiyo South, Elgeyo Marakwet County.

According to police, Mark Kibiwott was clearing a bush on his property on Tuesday, April 15, when a snake bit him.

He raised an alarm and was rushed to Kapsang dispensary before being referred to Kabarnet County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the snake poison had attacked nerves by the time he was taken to the hospital.

Locals joined in efforts to trace the killer snake in vain.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures. Such incidents are common in the area amid a campaign to address the trend.

Meanwhile, three people drowned in separate incidents reported to police.

The first incident happened in Kathonzweni, Makueni County, where a two-year-old boy drowned in a small tank in their compound while playing with other children.

Police said he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to a mortuary in the area pending autopsy and other investigations.

In Kendu Bay, Homabay, one Gilbert Otieno, 31, drowned in Lake Victoria.

Police said the incident happened at Apida Karabondi beach.

His body was moved to the Gendia Adventist Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.

In Endebess, Kwanza, Trans Nzoia, a five-year-old boy drowned in a water pan in a tragedy.

The boy had been playing with his friends when he went missing.

A search was mounted in the area before his body was found drowned in the water pan.

The pan is about 12 meters deep.

The body was moved to the local mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations, police said.

Police say cases of drowning have been on the rise, with some linked to heavy rains being experienced in the country.
