Digitally signing a PDF adds a layer of authenticity and professionalism to your documents. It is especially useful for contracts, applications, and other official files that require a verifiable signature. Fortunately, signing a PDF can be done easily using various tools available on your computer or online. Here is how to digitally sign a PDF.

    1. Use Adobe Acrobat Reader (Free Version)

Adobe Acrobat Reader is one of the most popular tools for signing PDFs.

    • Open your PDF with Adobe Acrobat Reader.
    • Click on “Fill & Sign” in the right-hand panel.
    • Select “Sign Yourself” and then “Add Signature.”
    • You can choose to type, draw, or upload an image of your signature.
    • Once added, drag the signature to the appropriate place in the document and adjust its size.
    • Save the file to keep the signature.
    1. Sign Using Microsoft Edge (Windows)

If you’re using a Windows device, the built-in Microsoft Edge browser allows basic PDF signing.

    • Right-click your PDF and select “Open with” > “Microsoft Edge.”
    • Click on the pen icon at the top (Draw tool).
    • Use your mouse or touchscreen to sign directly on the document.
    • Save the file when done.
    1. Use Preview (macOS)

Mac users can sign PDFs easily using the built-in Preview app.

    • Open your PDF with Preview.
    • Click the “Markup” toolbar (pen icon), then click the “Sign” icon.
    • Create your signature using your trackpad or upload a scanned image.
    • Click to insert it where needed and resize if necessary.
    • Save the document.
    1. Use Online Tools (No Software Needed)

If you prefer not to install any programs, you can use secure online services like:

    • Smallpdf (www.smallpdf.com)
    • PDFescape (www.pdfescape.com)
    • DocuSign (www.docusign.com)

Upload your document, add your digital signature using a mouse, keyboard, or uploaded image, and download the signed file. These services often offer free basic features but may require registration for additional options.

    1. Use PDF Apps on Mobile

There are mobile apps available for both iOS and Android that let you sign PDFs:

    • Adobe Fill & Sign
    • DocuSign
    • Xodo PDF

Open the PDF in the app, tap on the signature tool, create or insert your signature, and place it where required.
