Nuclear-armed rivals India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire following U.S.-led talks to end an intensifying military confrontation, President Donald Trump announced in a post on his Truth Social media platform Saturday morning.

“After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

“Congratulations to both Countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence,” Trump wrote.
“Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Pakistan’s foreign minister also said both countries had agreed to a ceasefire “with immediate effect” and India’s foreign ministry said it would start at 5 p.m. Indian time (1130 GMT).

The agreement follows several weeks of military clashes in the aftermath of an armed and deadly attack on tourists last month that India blames Pakistan for.

Hours earlier, India and Pakistan both carried out strikes using drones and missiles fired from fighter jets in a major escalation of the conflict.
