A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death in a suspected love triangle at Menyinkwa Trading Market in Kisii Central Sub-County.

Dorcas Oiruru was found dead outside a block of rental houses at the market on Wednesday evening, September 9, 2026.

Preliminary investigations indicated that Oiruru had been left alone inside the rented house of her male friend who was a gas vendor operating within Kisii town.

Police said the woman was allegedly attacked at about 6pm by a woman who was reportedly armed with a knife.

The suspect allegedly stabbed Oiruru on the neck and both hands, inflicting fatal injuries.

Detectives processed the scene and recovered two knives, a blood-stained bedsheet and blood-stained clothing, including a blouse, breast cloth and skirt, which were taken for further analysis.

Oiruru’s body was removed and taken to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

The suspect was arrested and remained in police custody as investigations continued.

Police suspect the killing may have been linked to a love triangle, although investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances and motive of the attack.

And police in Migori County have launched investigations after a 28-year-old herdsman was found dead beside Renyamabairege River in Kuria West.

Thomas Weisiko Sando, who worked as a herdsman, was discovered lying dead near the river on Wednesday, September 9, 2026.

The circumstances surrounding Sando’s death remained unclear.

Police said earlier in the day, at about 3pm, a dispute had arisen after a herd of cattle allegedly invaded a maize farm belonging to a local and destroyed crops.

The matter was reported to local administrators, who alerted police from Masaba Police Station. Officers went to the farm and drove 14 cows to the police post.

Police later established that the cattle allegedly belonged to Sando, who had by then been found dead.

Tension escalated when an estimated 200 people, some armed with bows, poisoned arrows, machetes and other crude weapons, reportedly blocked police officers from retrieving the body.

The crowd allegedly demanded that a herd of 20 cattle belonging to the deceased’s family be returned before they could allow the body to be taken from the scene.

Police, assisted by local National Government Administration Officers, negotiated with a section of the group and proceeded to Masaba Police Post for the handover of the 14 cattle.

However, upon arrival, the deceased’s family reportedly insisted that the herd consisted of 20 cows and demanded the return of the remaining six.

They subsequently declined to allow officers to retrieve Sando’s body from the scene.

Police, who were outnumbered, made a tactical retreat to allow further dialogue and prevent a confrontation.

The scene was photographed and documented, but the body remained at the location pending resolution of the standoff and further investigations.

The group later allowed the collection of the body.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Sando’s death as efforts continue to recover his body.
