How To Draw A Shirt

Drawing a shirt is a simple and useful skill, especially for school assignments, fashion sketches, or practicing how to draw clothing on people. A shirt has a basic shape, and once you understand how to outline the collar, sleeves, and body, you can create a neat and realistic sketch. Here is how to draw a shirt.

Step 1: Draw the Shirt Outline

Begin by drawing a slightly wide rectangle or a U-shape with rounded corners. This forms the main body of the shirt. Make sure it’s longer than it is wide, to match the shape of a real shirt. Leave a little space at the top for the neckline and sleeves.

Step 2: Add the Collar

At the top of the shirt body, draw a short curved line to create the neckline. From each end of that line, draw two short diagonal lines slanting outward. Then, connect the ends with a straight line across the top to form the collar. You can also draw two triangular shapes pointing down from the collar to show an open shirt collar.

Step 3: Draw the Sleeves

On each side of the shirt, draw a short line outward from the top corners. Then curve each line downward and slightly back toward the body of the shirt. Connect them to the sides to complete the sleeves. Make sure the sleeves look symmetrical.

Step 4: Add Shirt Details

Now, you can add features to make the shirt look more realistic. Draw a line down the center from the collar to the bottom to represent the shirt’s opening. Add small circles or short lines along this line to show buttons. You can also sketch a chest pocket by drawing a small square or rectangle on one side of the chest area.

Step 5: Add Folds or Seams

To make your shirt more lifelike, draw a few light lines near the armpits and sides to show natural fabric folds. You can also add stitching lines near the edges of the sleeves and bottom hem.

Step 6: Outline and Color

Go over your drawing with a pen or darker pencil to clean up your lines. Erase any unnecessary marks. Then color your shirt however you like. Use plain colors for a simple look or add patterns like stripes, checks, or logos.
